Money: Interest Rates – September 10th 09

Andy Verity and Mickey Clark present this morning’s business stories, including:
With the cost of borrowing lower than ever for six months now and with the Bank of England later today not expected to change rates, are we any better off?
Tumbling annuity rates mean the people who are about to retire could be hundreds of pounds worse off than they would have been a year ago.
We also look at beer sales as they may be slumping and fifty pubs closing a week but the UK is now the “undisputed top brewing country in world.”
Finally, independent newsagents are closing down at the rate of more than one a day. That’s according to the National Federation of Retail Newsagents, which is calling on the government to rescue their declining industry.
